No 2008 Corvette Challenge
03/06/08 - We are sorry to say there will be no Corvette Challenge at Darlington, South Carolina. Unfortunatly there was not enough participation in the series and we cannot continue the series. Please consider coming up to the 2008 Zip Products National Corvette Challenge in Richmond, VA or participating in the regular Corvette Challenge series there. www.mid-atlanticcorvettechallenge.com.

We would like to thank the racers and sponsors that did their best to keep this series going.

Danny Moore Wins Corvette Challenge Race 5

By Art Brown

10/27/07 - Darlington, SC - Contrary to the weather predictions of earlier in the week, the weather at Darlington Dragway was near perfect for the 5th Carolina Corvette Challenge of 2007.

1st round action found Art Brown with his black C5 convertible paired off with Larue and his silver C5 convertible. Larue was a little anxious and red-lighted giving Art an easy win. Kerry Jamison and Danny Moore were also paired off in the 1st round. Kerry's better reaction time of .083 contributed significantly to his win. Julius Mitchell had the bye. Larue and Danny both bought back in.

2nd round action found Kerry with the bye automatically giving him his fourth point for the day and a 1 point lead over Danny Moore. Danny, now ineligible for any additional points, was paired off with Larue. This time Danny's better reaction time aided him to victory and eliminated Larue for the night. Art Brown, sleeping at the start with a .287 reaction time and turning his best time of the day at 11.352 on an 11.35 dial in, lost to Julius Mitchell in his red convertible. Art bought back in.

3rd round action found Art and Kerry paired off and Danny and Julius facing each other. Art and Kerry both cut respectable lights, .053 and .059 respectively. Kerry made his best run of the night with an 11.858@112.27. Unfortunately for Kerry, his dial-in was 11.90 giving Art the win. In the next race with Danny and Julius, Julius had pretty much the same luck. On an 11.94 dial-in Julius ran 11.872 breaking out and giving Danny the win.

In the finals, Art was unable to complete a decent burnout and spun quite a bit through first and second gear giving Danny an easy win.

The bottom line: everyone had a great time.

The sixth and last Corvette Challenge will be December 1st. Come on out.

Next Race is October 27!
10/20/07 - Our deepest apologies. Our schedule previously showed today as our next race. The IHRA World Finals are taking place this weekend and there will be no Corvette Challenge. Our next race will be next Saturday, October 27, 2007. We hope to see you next week for our fifth race of the year. We will have the sight updated for the previous race this weekend.

Kerry Jamison Back in the Winner's Circle at Corvette Challenge Race 4

By Edgar Perez

09/15/07 - Darlington, SC - The Carolina Corvette Challenge at Darlington Dragway was back in action today with five Corvette Racers making the event to air their rides out down the quarter mile.

With five drivers one would get the lucky draw for a bye run. The new driver, Justin Miklas, in the Bronze C6 got the bye. Art Brown raced Danny Moore in the first round. Brown would leave first with an 11.67 dial and Moore would follow with an even 11.0 dial. Moore's RT was better with .118 to .124 giving him a chance to win. Brown took a .0574 margin of victory as he ran 11.780 @ 115.32 and Moore 11.161 @ 128.46. Another new driver, Smith, with a Z06 faced Kerry Jamison and went red and gave Kerry the round. Smith, -.233 on his 12.50 dial. Jamison also went red but it did not matter as his 12.06 dial meant he did it after Smith.

Moore did not buy back into the second round and Smith did so that left us with an even four for the second round. Brown faced Smith with an 11.67 dial to Smith's 12.50. Smith was treed by Brown, .087 to .367 and would appear to be on the way to a loss. Smith went 12.528 and Brown found himself on the losing end of the round due to a breakout 11.630 @ 118.53. Jamison raced Justin Miklas, in the C6 Vette and took a close .0242 margin of victory as he broke out going 13.516 on 13.52 dial.

In round three, Brown bought back in after breaking out. Brown advanced to the final when Smith's Z06 broke out. Both drivers finished the run with 118 MPH so it was close. Jamison got a bye into the final to face Brown.

Jamison and Brown were in the final again. Both drivers cut super lights Brown taking the better of the two with a .065 to .080. Brown was dialed 11.63 to Jamison’s 12.0. Both drivers aired out and both broke out. Brown with an 11.606 broke out by more than Kerry with an 11.981 so Kerry takes the win.

Congratulations to the participants.

There are two races let. We race October 27 and again on December 01, 2007. Don't miss it.

Art Brown Wins his First Corvette Challenge in Race 3

By Edgar Perez

05/19/07 - Darlington, SC - Attendance was light for the third race of the Carolina Corvette Challenge at Darlington Dragway but we had a race and that is all the matters. The article for this race is a little, okay a lot late but regardless, the five drivers in attendance still enjoyed themselves and we have a first time winner in Art Brown.

The first round of racing had Mac McDonagh getting the single run and he put a 13.85 on the window and proceeded to breakout but still take the win on the single with a 13.611 @ 100.84 mph. Bobby Ram would square off with Art Brown and would leave first with a 12.30 dial to Brown's 11.30. Brown took the win cutting a better light and being closer to his dial running 11.378 @ 117.98 mph. Kerry Jamison would face Danny Moore next with Jamison dialed 11.82 to Moore's 10.75. Moore got the light with a .029 and ran 10.789 on the dial to take the win over Jamison who had trouble on the pass and not anywhere near his dial. For round 2 both drivers bought back in and this time Moore got the single and he would run 10.859 on 10.78 dial. McDonagh would face Ram in this race with leaving first with a 13.65 to 12.50 on Ram's Corvette. Ram had trouble completing the pass and could not run in the 12's so McDonagh was into the next round with a win. Jamison was real close to his dial with an 11.839 @ 111.98 on an 11.82 dial with a .115 light. He did not need it as his opponent, Brown, went red -.137.

Now in round three we had four cars left with another buyback. This round Jamison was dead-on 11.83 with a 9 on 11.83 dial and took the win getting into the final when McDonagh went red. Art Brown would cut a better light than Danny Moore causing him to breakout. Moore ran 10.778 on 10.80 dial with .207 light and Brown had the better package and the win light with a .127 and 11.366 on 11.35 dial and was on the way to final. In the final the drivers were pretty close in ET and even closer on RT. Brown was better with a .076 to Jamison's .098. He was doing the chasing with the 11.35 dial to 11.83 for Kerry. As they cross, Jamison went under going 11.823 and Brown was dead-on with an 11.353 @ 119.64 and the win light. Congratulations go out the five drivers to made it out today especially to Art Brown for the great day and the dead-on final.

Kerry Jamison Wins Second in a Row at Half Track

By Kerry Jamison

04/21/07 - Darlington, SC - I drove my car up and heard a noise in the rear about 15 miles away from the track. Upon inspection at the track I found an outer axle shaft u-joint was bad. I didn’t think I would get to run, but needed to repair it to get home. With borrowed tools and a ride from a friend to the parts store I was able to get it replaced in time to make the first round.

We had 2 new drivers, but a couple were missing . Danny Niceley from Tennessee had the quickest car running 10.30s N.A.

Unfortunately, when it came time to run the track had software issues so we were forced to run 1/8 mile bracket. Again, I broke out in the first round. I bought back in and made it to the finals. The semis paired Danny Moore against Danny Niceley. Danny Moore got to leave first, but Danny Niceley ran him down for the win. I had a bye run in the semis. The finals paired me against Danny Niceley. I got a .035 light against Danny’s .11 light. I dialed a 7.50 and ran a 7.506 and Danny broke out running me down.

Kerry Jamison Wins Jamison's Carolina Corvette Challenge at Darlington Dragway

David Luplow

03/17/07 - Darlington, SC - The Jamison's Carolina Corvette Challenge kicked off the 2007 season in cool fashion. We had 13 racers ranging from our winner's 383 C4 to a blistering fast 427 C5. Several other Corvettes came out to catch and lend words of warmth to the racers, as the temperatures where a blustery 45 degrees, with a stiff side wind making it much colder. The harsh side wind limited the racing to the 1/8th mile, but the Corvettes soon warmed it up.

The race was run alternately to the Darlington bracket racing, so we had enough time between rounds to tweak cars, and grab some coffee. Veteran racer, Joe Gabella, cruised all the way out to the quarter finals with best reaction times, every round! Danny Nicely roared out to the quarters as well with his fresh 427 cid motor in his C5, and Joe and Danny both where yanking the wheels on the launch and running high 1.39s short times. The finals pitted 2006 series champion Danny Moore and Kerry Jamison. Danny broke out and Kerry got the win light, and took his first event.

Several cars could not make it out due to some recent carnage, some of it even happened the day of the race! In all, the season started strong and built some great momentum for the new year, and a new track. We equaled our best number of racers first time out, and will continue to attract more cars.

Dan Whitton wins Event 5

11/11/06 - Jackson, SC - The last race of the 2007 season started with a record turnout of 34 cars, 25 of which were Corvettes. To generate interest we extended our test and tune session from 1 to 2 hours and opened it to all makes and hosted an additional bracket race for non Vettes. As for the Carolina Corvette Challenge portion of the day only 10 drivers decided to compete. In the end it was Dan Whitton winning again. Congratulations Dan on win #2. Dan beat out Danny Nicely when Danny left too early and lit up the win light in the other lane.

A new season champion was crowned also. Congratulations to last year's runner-up Danny Moore. Danny has had a great year, winning one Carolina Corvette Challenge, The Carolina Corvette Challenge Championship, and the National Corvette Challenge in Bowling Green, KY back in May.

WE hope to have news about next year very soon, so keep checking back and check out going to the National Race next year.

Joe Gabella wins Event 2

08/26/06 - Jackson, SC - With only four Corvettes showing up for race two of The Carolina Corvette Challenge presented by Jamisons Custom Corvettes, there is not much of a story to be told, so lets go round by round.

Round One

It started with Joe Gabella facing Damon Thompson and it was over at the line, with Damon catching a red light to give the win light to Joe. The second pair had Danny Moore against newcomer Dave Luplow. Danny dailed inat 11.62 and Dave dialed in at 11.60, so it was all but a heads-up race. Dave hit his dial dead on turning a time of 11.608 but he gave up too much time at the line and Danny took the win light.

Round Two

Dave and Damon both bought back in to carry four cars to round two, with the same matchups as round one. Damon Thompson took the win light by cuttinga .038 light and notgiving that time back, Danny Moore got the win light when dave Luplow had a case of premature acceleration.

Round Three

Damon got the bye in round three due to his .038 R/T in round 2. Joe bought back in after losing in round 2 and lined up against Danny. Joe cut a .009 light and ran down the red Vette of Danny to earn his spot in the final round.

Final Round

The final round would have Damon and Joe for the third time in four rounds and it ended just like the first race with Damon starting a little too early and giving the win light to Joe.

The next race is Spetember 9th. We invite all Corvette owners to come and race with us.

Schedule Change

The November 18th race has been moved up one week to November 11th.

04/01/06 - Rain was falling today and the track operators called the race/ Make-up date TBA.

Dwayne Schultz kicks of 2006 with Event 1 Win

03/18/06 - Jackson, SC - The 2006 Carolina Corvette Challenge Series presented by Jamison's Custom Corvette is finally underway. 9 drivers returned from last years series, along with 2 Carolina Challenge first timers.

Round one consisted of only 5 pairing with three races decided by premature acceleration. Joe Gabella, Dwayne Shultz, and Danny Moore were the recipients of these gifts. Kerry Jamison and Danny Nicely won their races at the other end of the strip. First time Bracket racer Bryan Crocker was showing his beginners luck by drawing the first round pass.

After the first round buy backs we were onto round two with 5 pairings again. This round was no different in the premature acceleration total matching that of the first round. In the final pairing of round two we had Danny Nicely welcoming Rookie Bryan Crocker to the world of bracket racing by cutting a perfect .000 light and going on to take the win light.

With the second round of buybacks complete we were down to three pairs. In the first pair we had Dwayne Shultz cutting a .037 light compared to the .091 light of Kerry Jamison and never looking back. The second race was over in the staging lanes when Paul Smiths car failed to start, giving the win to Danny Moore. The final pair was again Danny nicely and Bryan Crocker, but it was Danny Nicely leaving .015 too early and sending Bryan to the semi-final round.

With only three racers left the free pass went to Dwayne Schultz, leaving Danny Moore to face Bryan Crocker. Bryan left first with a .165 RT followed by Danny who finally woke-up and left the starting line with a .330 RT. That was all Bryan needed as he turned in a time of 12.850 on a 12.80 dial.

The final pair was now at the line. The track regular Dwayne Schultz and the smiling Bryan Crocker. Dwayne took the advantage at the line besting Bryan by, 121 and then ran a 10.586 on a 10.50 dial.

NHRA Helmet Expiration Dates
12/20/05 - In the 2006 NHRA rule book on page 230 is a helmet expiration date schedule. It states that all Snell 90 rated helmets expire 1/1/2006 and Snell 95 helmets expire 1/1/2007. It is important for you to have his information because if you are in the market for a helmet, you want to ensure it does not expire in the two years. If you are shopping for a helmet, please ensure a Snell 2000 or Snell 2005 rating. IHRA tracks will likely follow in this pattern.
